Camsurf is one of several random video chat sites that filled the gap left by earlier platforms, but it's not the only option worth trying. If you're comparing Camsurf alternatives, here's what StrangerChat brings to the table.

A quick look at Camsurf

Camsurf positions itself as a clean, moderated random video chat site with both web and app versions, and gender/country filters available as an upgrade. It's a reasonable option if you mainly want video — the trade-off for some users is that the free tier keeps a few of the more useful filters out of reach.

  • How matching works — pure random versus interest-based.
  • Whether text chat is available alongside video.

StrangerChat's approach

There's no account step: you land on the homepage, pick Video Chat, and you're matched with someone right away. If you'd rather add context first, optional interest tags — things like travel, anime, or sports — help pair you with someone who picked similar topics. And if video isn't what you're in the mood for on a given day, Text Chat is available from the exact same screen.

Anonymous by default

Every session gets a randomly generated username, so there's no field asking for your name or any other identifying detail. It's a small design choice, but it removes one of the more common ways people accidentally share more than they meant to on random chat sites.

Moderated, not just monitored

Automated systems flag likely violations continuously, and human moderators review reports so that skipping or reporting someone actually leads somewhere. The report button sits right next to the chat controls, so it's never more than a tap away.

Common questions

Do I need to pay to use filters like interest tags?+

No. Interest tags are free for everyone on StrangerChat — there's no premium tier gating them.

Can I use text chat instead of video?+

Yes. Text Chat and Video Chat sit side by side on the homepage, and you can switch between them any time.
